It’s that time of the year again: Nerd Valentine! YES!

A Middlesex University student, Kieron-Scott Woodhouse, designed his fantasy Android mobile, making it a little more interesting than many of the black slabs out there by wrapping in a bamboo case. After posting his concept online, a “technology entrepreneur” came forward to help get it made and sold.

The phone’s not just a generic Chinese model stuffed in a fancy case, either. The ADzero contains “Mobile Ring Flash Technology” which sees the camera’s flash ring the lens, supposedly giving you a more even light distribution. Meanwhile, the Android OS onboard will also be bespoke, with the designer saying he’s currently at work on the “AD Android OS User Interface.”

But as cool as it looks, we’ll wait for some proper technical details about the phone within the bamboo casing before getting too excited. You can’t make a quad-core processor out of bamboo. [Justadzero]

Volkswagen is no stranger to the art of designing snow sleds as the German carmaker has marketed some nifty pieces modeled after its automobiles over the past few years.

For 2012, the Wolfsburg-based company has released two new sleds that are currently available for order exclusively from its official German website.

The most eye-catching sled is the Golf GTI-branded Crazy Bob, which is made of plastic and features footrests integrated on both sides. This one is priced at €64.9 (US$84) in Germany.

Three human shaped RC planes were flown around New York City to create the illusion of people flying.

How fun is this? The marketing team behind the movie Chronicle built three RC planes in the shape of human beings and flew them around New York City to create the illusion of superheroes zooming around iconic landmarks. Say what you will about this being a viral marketing ploy, I would much rather watch this than a 60-second trailer on TV. Well done. And also, I want one…
