Brand New Conference

UnderConsideration is starting a conference. Focusing on corporate and brand identity, the conference is a direct extension of the popular blog Brand New.

The inaugural conference takes place in New York City as it is undoubtedly one of the most important hubs of identity practice and, presumably, an allure to out-of-towners who might be inclined to attend the conference and make a weekend out of it. The venue for the conference will be the School of Visual Arts Theatre, in the Beatrice auditorium, which holds 266 attendees.

The speaker line-up is nothing short of impressive. I am not surprised. When Armin and Bryony do something, they do it right.

Inflatable Sculptures

This is another example of “Amazing Simplicity“. Street artist Joshua Allen Harris creates sculptures , using plastic shopping bags, that inflate and become animated when subway cars pass beneath the sidewalk grates in New York City.

Tokujin Yoshioka

Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka has trapped a crystal in a perfume bottle for crystal brand Swarovski.

Called The Scent of Crystal, the project was proposed by Yoshioka while working with the brand but will not be put into production.

“The scent of crystal” – Swarovski

For this symbolic work, Tokujin set up the concept of “Wearing the scent of crystal.”

While Tokujin has been conducting several collaboration projects with Swarovski, he was commissioned to come up with a concept design for a product that symbolizes Swarovski.

Rather than by rearranging visual shapes, he pondered of designing a perfume bottle with a thoroughly new concept, which is to affect the senses.

The intent of the design is to bottle crystal within perfume, and to let the crystal fit in the scent.

Even this project had not been realized, Tokujin developed a new perspective.

Quintetto

Quintetto is an installation based on the study of the casual movement of fish used as input for the production of sounds. The piece is composed of 5 vertical aquariums holding a fish in each as a video camera records its movements which are then translated into sounds through a computer software. As the fish moves casually up and down through the aquarium, the movements are captured into digital sounds signals. With 5 different instruments the fish become the conductors of a live concert.”

Tom Dixon mesh chair for magis

British designer tom dixon’s new ‘mesh’ chair for italian furniture manufacturer magis is made from two tooling processes: the pressing of metal mesh for the seat, and aluminum extrusion for the frame. ‘mesh’ aspires to be almost invisible, with its semi-transparent structure. its visual lightness and delicate curves make it a seat ideal for both the domestic and professional environment.

‘mesh’ was presented at the milan fairgrounds during design week 2010.

Elisse nel Trapezio

‘Elisse nel Trapezio’ is an anamorphic perspective painting by Felice Varini. What appears to be a choatic jumble of lines and shapes on first glance resolves into an orderly composition when viewed from the right vantage point. – The patience and precision required in pulling this off in this is incredible!
