Your Brain on Computers

I highly recommend this NYTimes Article, which is both interesting and scary: Hooked on Gadgets, and Paying a Mental Price, by Matt Richtel

Henrik Persson

Swedish designer Henrik Persson of Become just brought this lovely book package to our attention. I love the amount of work and thought that went into this custom piece. More detailed photos after the jump.

“The book weighs 16 kgs (half meter high when standing on floor) and comes in a vertical standing packaging/display stand made in perspex that literally looks like a building/skyscraper.”

Mag+

This conceptual video is a corporate collaborative research project initiated by Bonnier R&D into the experience of reading magazines on handheld digital devices. It illustrates one possible vision for digital magazines in the near future, presented by our design partners at BERG.

Wired for iPad

If anyone is going to properly show off the true potential of next generation media consumption, its going to be none other than Conde Nast’s technology and culture mag, Wired. Wired is launching with the June issue ($5) which is chock full of multimedia-rich content and articles on the making Toy Story 3, a behind the scenes session with Trent Reznor, and more. Studio 2br

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to introduce to you a fine selection of work from Studio 2br (or simply 2br) an independent design consultancy working with clients in the UK, Europe and the US. They provide large organisations with clear thinking, plain speaking and graphic design craft.

I hope you enjoy this post and have a great weekend. Thank you once again to Dave @2br for helping me end this week on such a high note.

Deutsche Bank agreed that it’s new brand and visual identity guidelines should exist physically as well as digitally. Having developed the new system over 12+ months, Studio 2br designed the new Deutsche Bank Brand Portal and produced an 80-page A3 guidelines book.

Printed in 8-colours on Fenner Paper Marazion 90gsm, with a silkscreened plastic wallet to protect it, the book is intended to set the bar and act as constant inspiration for Deutsche’s creative agencies.

Extreme Instability

(Images used with explicit permission)

Mike has been chasing storms for almost 11 years. This was Mike Hollingshead’s ‘job’ as of March 2004. He quit his old job because he hated it.

Initially starting out as a Storm Chaser filming storms with a cheap camcorder, Mike soon saw a few cool skies and realized he needed something better to show the images on his site. Travelling in his Ford Mustang to around 40 storm chases a year, and covering over around 22,000 miles a year, so that he can capture the side of Mother Nature that we rarely see. He is considered one of the best storm chasers in the world. His photographs are astonishing. Mike has good years and bad years but he keeps going at it, whatever the weather.

The Google Job Experiment

Alec Brownstein wanted a job in advertising, so he made pages that showed up as the first result when several big New York creative directors Googled themselves. He got interviews with nearly all of them. Yeah, it’s pretty brilliant.

He got a job at Y&R New York by playing to the egos of Gerry Graf, David Droga, Tony Granger, Ian Reichenthal and Scott Vitrone. And then he won two pencils and a Clio for doing it.

Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

Ithaa

This is the world’s first ever undersea restaurant called Ithaa. Ithaa, which means pearl in Dhivehi, is the world’s premier mostly acrylic undersea restaurant, secured five metres below sea level, at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa (soon to be the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island) in Rangalifinolhu, Maldives. This undersea restaurant cost less than $5 million and is part of a project to rebuilt the Rangalifinolhu Island into a tourist attraction.

The restaurant sits 5 meters below the sea and is surrounded by vibrant coral reef offering a 270 degrees of panoramic underwater views. This 5 x 9 meter restaurant has a capacity of 14 people and was designed and constructed by M.J. Murphy Ltd. which is a design consultancy based in New Zealand. The meals of this restaurant range in cost from USD$120 to USD$250.
