Secret Stash

Secret Stash Project by Yi-Ting Cheng, filmed and edited by Juriaan Booij

This project is about concealing valuables, secrets, bad habits and personal information in our workplaces. Here, hidden spaces/ messages were created within 8 general objects such as wood boards, lamps and disposable coffee cups.

Why doing this?
We all have the need of hiding.

We hide our valuables from being stolen, we conceal our past from our loved ones, we never show our real side to colleagues, we all have secrets. Or, sometimes we just want to keep something only for ourselves.

How?
Utilize stereotypes and visual camouflage.

We make judgments based mainly on our experiences and what we see. This dependency on visual information can create large blind spots. Thus, usual stereotypes of how we perceive solid, transparency and lighting are employed in this project to play with notions of ‘solid and void’, and ‘true and false’.

U-Boat Italo Fontana U-51 Rattrapante

U Boat Italo Fontana U 51 Rattrapante design

We’ll admit, we’re not the biggest fans of U-Boat. Their garish, oversized dials aren’t exactly the most admired styles in the watch world. Their Italo Fontana U-51 Rattrapante however, is quite the opposite. While the case still clocks in at very mighty 51mm, the watch definitely has a style all its own that exudes classic, brute presence more so than being an oversized showpiece. Movement comes in the form of an automatic, 25 jewel Alfred Rochat with a 44 hour power reserve. Link

Rankin: Destroy Your Image!

With a trademark portraiture style and mischievous eye, Dazed and Confused-founder Rankin enjoys a reputation as one of the world’s leading photographers. So who would dare destroy him?

For the charity project and book Destroy / Rankin, former subjects — including Basement Jaxx, Beck, Jarvis Cocker, U2, Ian Brown, Kylie Minogue, Little Boots and Marianne Faithfull — were given the opportunity to revamp their respective photographs into something both deeply personal and reflective of their artistic style. The result is an au courant body of collaborative art ranging from paintings and drawings to collage.

The Balvenie Forty

The Balvenie Forty design

Here Design brings craft and collaboration to The Balvenie Forty. Here Design has collaborated with cabinetmakers, engravers and calligraphers in creating packaging to reflect the unequalled craftsmanship of The Balvenie Forty.”

“This exceptional single malt Scotch whisky, a marriage of The Balvenie matured for over forty years in sherry casks and refill hogsheads, was created by Malt Master David Stewart. A batch of only 150 hand numbered bottles of The Balvenie Forty will be available at exclusive travel retail outlets in the world’s leading airports, from July 2010 at a RRP of £2500.

Inspired by The Balvenie’s enduring commitment to quality and craftsmanship, Here and The Balvenie team commissioned renowned Scottish craftsman Sam Chinnery to produce a bespoke circular oak box. The final box references the coopered construction of whisky casks and, as a finishing touch, Sam’s father hand-engraved the whisky’s age on each individual box. The bottle label displays an equal level of rare hand finishing.

Here worked with one of the world’s leading calligraphers, Peter Horridge, who handwrote the details on each of the 150 bottle labels. “Our intention with all of our design for The Balvenie is to engage and collaborate with amazing British craftsmen,” explains Here Creative Partner Mark Paton. “It’s always a pleasure to listen and learn from someone who has spent their life honing and refining their craft – whether they’re a malt master or a cabinetmaker.”
